Roadster Wireworks Installation Guide

Install Adapter EVO

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the factory airbox or aftermarket intake tubing as required for access.
  3. Remove the factory ECU shield and coolant hose bracket.
  4. Remove the factory ECU.
  5. Place Adapter EVO onto the factory ECU bracket in the same orientation as the original ECU.
  6. If the factory ECU shield will not be reinstalled, remove the engine harness ground ring terminal from the factory ECU shield and place it onto one of the ECU mounting studs.
  7. Reinstall the two ECU retaining nuts to secure Adapter EVO.
  8. Connect the factory engine harness and body harness connectors to Adapter EVO. Rotate each locking lever until it is fully closed and the connector is completely seated.

Install the Patch Harness

NOTE
The firewall hole location shown below is recommended for left-hand-drive vehicles. The harness may be routed through any suitable location with adequate clearance.

  1. Using a right-angle drill and a 55 mm hole saw (Amazon link), drill a hole through the firewall.
    CAUTION
Apply only light pressure while drilling. The firewall sheet metal is thin, and once the cut is complete the hole saw can catch the insulation on the cabin side of the firewall.

  2. Use a razor knife or sharp scissors to trim away the insulation around the new hole.
  3. Deburr or sand the edge of the hole until smooth to prevent damage to the grommet.

  4. Apply paint to the exposed metal and allow it to dry completely to prevent corrosion.

  5. Connect the patch harness to Adapter EVO.

  6. Route the patch harness along the front core support and secure it to the factory wiring harness using cable ties every 6–12 inches (150–300 mm).
  7. Feed the standalone ECU connectors through the firewall opening one at a time. Take care not to damage the connectors or wiring on the edge of the hole.
  8. Slide the firewall grommet along the harness until it is positioned within the hole.

  9. Apply pressure around the outer edge of the grommet until the groove is fully seated around the perimeter of the hole.
  10. Install a cable tie around the neck of the grommet from inside the cabin to help prevent it from being pulled out and to improve the seal against water and fumes.

    OPTIONAL
Reinstall the factory ECU shield and coolant hose bracket. Major trimming of the ECU shield is required for clearance.

  11. Reinstall the factory airbox or intake tubing.

  12. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Install the Standalone ECU

  1. Mount the standalone ECU in a suitable location in the passenger footwell area or glovebox.

  2. Connect the patch harness to the standalone ECU.

  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (do not start the engine).

  4. Connect a laptop to the ECU and load the supplied base map following the ECU manufacturer's instructions.

  5. Before first start, check:
    1. Battery terminals tightened
    2. Patch harness connectors fully seated
    3. Harness ground terminal at adapter installed
    4. Firewall grommet seated and sealed
    5. Standalone ECU loaded with base map

  6. Once all checks are complete, start the engine.
